Vitamin D Deficiency? Here's how to up your vitamin D levels!

Here's How I Increased My Vitamin D Levels

If you are here reading this article there is a good chance you are like me and are currently battling a vitamin D deficiency.

While it has been a few years since I went through this, I figured I would share my experience.

Let me tell you, it was not a fun time. It had been a tiring process to figure out why I have been feeling the way I felt.  I have had some issues with energy levels, finding motivation, being active, and just feeling rather down.

And that is fairly uncommon for me. I have always been very active and what I would consider healthy. At first, my wife and I thought it was stress, I had been working a lot, on the road a lot and not sleeping well.

After getting some medical advice we had tried a handful of things, which ultimately led me to get a blood panel.

While they found that I was fairly deficient in quite a few things, I started with vitamin D.

In short, it was that I was spending too much time inside with a diet that was nutrient deficient.

This lead to onset soreness, a massive struggle to recover after long work weeks and exercise and a less than ideal mood and mindset.

How I increased my Vitamin D Levels Naturally

I first started making an effort to get more sun. I made sure that I went outside every day and got sun on my face, arms and chest. While I was at home I would even take my shirt off to make sure i had more skin exposed. The more that is exposed to the sun the more vitamin D your body will soak in and synthesize.

I started shooting for 10 minutes a day which was easy and then moved up to 20 minutes.

I would set a couple alarms on my phone as a reminder.

Good Sources of Vitamin D??

Next, I did some research and found common food sources that had Vitamin D in them and started eating them about 3-4 times a week.

Some of the best ways to get more vitamin naturally is through fish. I'll be honest I am not a really big fish guy, but I muscled it down some tuna and occasionally some salmon, but good salmon is actually quite expensive..

It was actually cheaper to supplement with d3 than buy salmon every week

I also made an extra effort to get vitamin D from fortified foods. Orange Juice is a great source of vitamin D, just look at the label and make sure it is being added.

This is super weird but breakfast cereals are also fortified with vitamin D. I chose to stick with Cheerios.

Dairy products are also great sources. If you are ok with eating butter and cheeses those can be a great source too.

Vitamin D Supplementation

The best thing that I did was to start supplementing with Vitamin D. In the beginning, I tied a bunch of different ones. When I was taking the capsules I felt like it was passing through my body and ultimately going down the toilet.

We have all seen it, we know when we take our vitamins... The color of our urine usually changes color. LOL

Then I switched to a liquid vitamin d which I found had a better absorption rate. The one I found to be the most effective was by a company by Purathrive.

They have a liposomal delivery system of vitamin D to your body. Essentially these things called liposomes protect the vitamin d so it does not get broken down in your body and you actually absorb a lot of the vitamin d.

Here is a link to their page if you are interested in trying something like this.

I was hesitant at first but did a ton of research before buying, They have awesome customer service and a crazy 180-day money-back guarantee..

Top-quality company. I will never stop singing their praises

4 SIMPLE Foods to combat vitamin D deficiency and how to fix it

4 SIMPLE Foods to combat vitamin D deficiency:

Some are calling this a massive problem, I am talking about vitamin d deficiencies. You see, every year more and more people are getting less and less sun. We all spend an exorbitant amount of time inside. Between being in an office, a car and our house, we get VERY little amounts of direct sunlight and it is causing large amounts of the population to suffer from vitamin d deficiencies

Sadly, this is being tied to anxiety and depression and even more, drastic diseases like graves disease, lupus, and irritable bowel syndrome, say Dr. Axe.

Luckily there some food we can consume that do have a good amount of Vitamin D3 in them!

Check out this youtube video that has more great tips on how to get more vitamin D naturally

Food #1 – Mushrooms

mushrooms are the only plant source of vitamin D and this is great if you are a vegetarian as the rest are all non-vegetarian food!

You see, mushrooms produce vitamin D2, & D2 helps raise blood levels of vitamin D.keep in mind it is NOT D3 but none the less wild mushrooms are excellent sources of vitamin D2.

Food #2 –Salmon
One 3.5-ounce serving of salmon contains between 300 and 600 IU of vitamin D.
On average, wild-caught salmon can have 900 IUs of vitamin D per 1 small serving. Some studies have shown IU levels as high as 1,300 IU per serving which would more than 150% of your recommended daily dosage.

Another source of Vitamin D would also come from farmed salmon but it only has 42% of the daily recommended dose, so it is not quite a potent or good for that matter.

Food #3 Tuna Fish Canned or packaged
Canned Tuna Fish surprisingly packs as much as 200 IUs of Vitamin D within one serving. It is also worth noting that it also contains Vitamin K which is super critical in helping maximize the impact of vitamin D and ultimately stops calcium from building up in the body.

Food # 4 Egg Yolks
Most people know this but most vitamins in eggs are found in the yolk including Vitamin D and vitamin K2. Having K2 is super important to have in calcium placement and as your D3 intake goes up you K2 in take must follow suit

When buying eggs it is important that you look for pasture-raised or free-range chickens. The reason being is because they had access to the sun and ultimately their yoks have a much higher D3 content. It can be as much as 3 times higher than eggs from chickens that were raised inside.

There you have it…
These 4 foods can help you reach your recommended daily IUs of Vitamin D and avoid some of the potentially harmful side effects that come from vitamin D deficiencies.
